We’ve put together our pick of outings and gift ideas, from theatre trips to coffee breaks, to help you plan the perfect Mother’s Day. Just read on now and find out where to take your mum, in London, for Mother’s Day.

If your mum’s one in a million, London is the perfect place to take her for a special treat – and, whilst you’re in the capital, you can shop for the ideal gift to show her how much you love her too.

This Mother’s Day, take your mum on a luxurious trip to London and…

Wow her with West End theatre tickets

A night out at a West End show makes the perfect Mother’s Day treat and there are many to choose from, so you’re sure to find one that your mother will love. Our favourites include:

  • Dreamboats and Petticoats

The Playhouse Theatre, Northumberland Avenue, London, WC2N 5DE

Take your Mum on a journey back to the golden era of rock and roll at this hit West End musical. This slick stage show features classic 60s numbers like ‘Let’s Twist Again’, ‘Runaround Sue’, Da Do Ron Ron’ and ‘Bobby’s Girl’. The Playhouse Theatre is just a few minutes’ walk from our elegant Charing Cross Hotel too.

  • Ghost the Musical

The Piccadilly Theatre, 16 Denman Street, London, W1D 7DY

Based on the 1991 film, which starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, this tale of everlasting love has been transformed into a romantic musical, and it’s sure to bring a tear to your mum’s eye. The Piccadilly Theatre is also within easy reach of both our Charing Cross Hotel and The Cumberland Hotel.

The Prince of Wales Theatre, Coventry Street, London, W1D 6AS

Treat your mum to some 70s-themed fun, by picking up tickets for Mamma Mia! This feel-good hit musical features some of ABBA’s greatest hits, and she’s sure to be singing along. The Prince of Wales Theatre is also close to the Charing Cross Hotel and The Cumberland Hotel.

Many of London’s West End theatres aren’t open on Sundays – so why not make a weekend of it and see a show on Friday or Saturday, and tour the capital on Sunday?

Thrill her with a trip on the Thames

Give your Mum some well-deserved time out with a relaxing trip on the Thames. A number of companies operate special Mothering Sunday boat trips, including elegant lunches and afternoon teas.

Splash out on tickets for Thames Boat Cruises’ ‘Mother’s Day Cruise’, and you and your Mother can enjoy a lavish lunch whilst enjoying musical entertainment as you cruise past some of the capital’s many landmarks.

Alternatively, book a place on JGF Passenger Boats’ Mother’s Day Boat Trip and indulge in afternoon tea on the Thames.

If your mum prefers to stay on dry land, don’t despair – you can still treat her to a wonderful lunch with a view of Tower Bridge in the Brasserie Restaurant at The Tower Hotel, or take afternoon tea at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, with its spectacular river views.

Spoil her at a spa

Every busy mum needs some time out – so treat her to some well-deserved pampering at one of London’s spas.

One of the most famous spas in the capital is Sanctuary, in Covent Garden. It offers a range of spa treatments, so you can treat your mum to a relaxing massage, a soothing body wrap, a refreshing facial, a luxurious manicure or facial, or an indulgent all-day spa experience.

Other top London spas include Bliss on Chelsea’s Sloane Avenue, Urban Retreat at Harrods and Spa Illuminata in Mayfair.

Surprise her with a sumptuous meal

Give your mum a break from the cooking this Mother’s Day and take her out for a lavish meal in the capital. Our favourite London restaurants include:

Irish-born chef Richard Corrigan opened this superb restaurant in 2008 and it has since won many awards, including being named as ‘AA London Restaurant of the year’ in 2009.

Its style is inspired by German hunting lodges, and is well-known for its high-quality seasonal game. However, its menus also include amazing fish dishes and plenty for vegetarians, and its ’3 Course Seasonal Market Menu’ provides outstanding value for money.

Corrigan’s Mayfair is also only a short tube journey away from The Grosvenor Hotel, the most recent addition to our luxurious London hotel collection.

  • Skylon (Royal Festival Hall, London, SE1 8XX)

Book a table at Skylon and your mum will be able to dine in style whilst enjoying views across the River Thames. This elegant restaurant, situated within the city’s Royal Festival Hall, serves exquisite food in a stunning environment.

Helena Puolakka, Skylon’s Finnish-born Head Chef, has created a special three course lunch menu for Mothering Sunday, so book early to make sure you don’t miss out. You can also combine a trip on the London Eye with a meal at Skylon for the perfect day out in the capital.

Our luxurious London hotels also feature outstanding restaurants, so you could treat your mum to a delicious meal and a night’s hotel stay for the perfect Mother’s Day experience. Try:

  • Gary Rhodes W1 (The Cumberland Hotel, Great Cumberland Place, London, W1C 1LZ)

The Michelin-starred Gary Rhodes W1 at The Cumberland Hotel is our flagship restaurant, and it’s the perfect place to go for fine dining on Mother’s Day.

Enjoy a sumptuous meal in elegant surroundings – and top it off with a champagne cocktail in our Rhodes Patrón Bar for the perfect end to a wonderful day.

Treat your mum to a superb meal in the lavish surroundings of our Charing Cross Hotel’s Brasserie this Mother’s Day. Our head chef has designed special three-course Mother’s Day Menu, which will be available on the evening of March 18 2012.

At just £34.95, it offers outstanding value for money – and the hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from the West End, so it’s a fabulous option for anyone taking their mother to the capital for a shopping or theatre trip.

For a gourmet dining experience to remember this Mothering Sunday, head to One Twenty One Two – the elegant and much lauded restaurant within the stunning Royal Horseguards Hotel.

Named after the telephone number of the hotel’s former neighbour, Scotland Yard, One Twenty One Two has been awarded two AA Rosettes, so you can be sure that your mum will receive high-quality food and excellent service.

The restaurant is offering a special three-course Mother’s Day Menu, featuring a choice of mouth-watering dishes, for just £25.

Lavish her with luxurious gifts

London is known for its elegant boutiques and high-end stores, so what better place to shop for a gift for your mum this Mother’s Day?

If you’re stuck for ideas, here are some suggestions for stores to explore in your hunt for the perfect present:

Add some sparkle to your mum’s special day by treating her to some earrings, a bracelet or a necklace from award-winning designer Nikki Galloway’s Mayfair boutique. In addition to Nude’s own designs, you’ll find pieces from some of the best new jewellery designers from the UK and the rest of the world to choose from.

Stock up your mum’s basket with tasty treats to take back home with her at Fortnum and Mason’s, one of London’s most famous department stores. The Fortnum’s Food Hall is on the Lower Ground Floor, but head to the Ground Floor and you’ll find a fabulous selection of freshly baked goodies, as well as confectionary, preserves, and tea and coffee.

A bouquet of flowers from Wild at Heart is sure to brighten your mum’s day. This celebrated floristry shop, set up by Nikki Tibbles, offers some stunning arrangements. Wild at Heart’s flowers are available in Liberty of London and Harrods, as well as in the main Pimlico Road store and the company’s ‘Turquoise Island’ store on Westbourne Grove.
